The National Investigation Agency (NIA), in coordination with the Bidar police, has secured a 24-year-old Vishal Kumar Metre, a resident of Yenkura village in Bhalki taluk of Bidar district, over his alleged links with Pakistan-based proclaimed terrorist Shahazad Bhatti and two of his associates.
According to police sources, Mr. Metre was arrested on October 1 under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) as part of an investigation into his alleged association with the trio. The other two persons have been identified as Rana Hunain and Nomi Khan.
Preliminary investigation has indicated that Mr. Metre was allegedly in communication with the three through his mobile phone and WhatsApp. Central investigating agencies had reportedly been monitoring his activities since December 2025.
Mr. Metre is also suspected of having a criminal background, according to the police. A case has been registered against him at Khatak Chincholi Police Station in Bhalki taluk.
Bidar Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti, speaking to reporters, said court proceedings in connection with the arrest were under way. “Once the proceedings are completed, more information will be shared regarding the arrest and the facts of the case,” he said.
