Mr Biswas is one of the MLAs in the Democratic Trinamool Congress who defected from the Mamata Banerjee faction after the 2026 Assembly elections and set up their own camp under Ritabrata Banerjee’s leadership. He had won from the Sagardighi seat on a Congress ticket in a 2023 bypoll, but later shifted to Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari wished him a speedy recovery. “I have heard about it and will get details of the matter,” Mr Adhikari told reporters.
“Deeply disturbed & pained with the news of my friend and colleague Bayron Biswas. Wishing for his speedy recovery. Get well soon Brother,” Mr. Ritabrata Banerjee reacted to the accident and wrote on social media.
Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that Mr Biswas was like his brother, even if they are in different political parties, and wished for his speedy recovery.
“This needs to be investigated because the fire occurred against the backdrop of his colourful political career,” West Bengal Congress president Subhankar Sarkar said.
