Three Kannur prison inmates booked for allegedly assaulting official

The Kannur Town police have registered a case against three inmates of the Kannur Central Prison and Correctional Home, Keralam, for allegedly assaulting a prison official and attempting to attack other on-duty personnel.

According to the complaint submitted by the prison superintendent, the incident occurred on September 22 evening at the prison’s 10th block. One of the accused, Vishnu, allegedly refused to follow the instruction of assistant prison officer Zyed Ali Ajsal, verbally abused him, grabbed him by the neck and assaulted him.

When fellow prison personnel attempted to intervene, inmates Adarsh Chandrasekharan and Brahmajith allegedly attempted to attack the officials. All the three inmates also allegedly obstructed the officials from discharging their duties.

The prison superintendent appeared before the Kannur Town police on Wednesday and submitted a complaint. The police registered a case under Section 115(2), 132 and 296(b) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
