Schools to remain closed today in Bhadradri Kothagudem district amid rain alert

Moderate to heavy rains lashed parts of Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Wednesday, even as schools under all managements remained closed following a forecast of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of the district.

According to sources, Aswaraopeta mandal, bordering Andhra Pradesh, received heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. The Peddavagu reservoir at Gummadivalli in Aswaraopeta mandal received heavy inflows from upstream areas, following which three of its gates were lifted to release surplus water downstream. The district administration has announced a holiday for all schools for the second consecutive day on Thursday as a precautionary measure in view of the red alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for the district for September 24.
