Sau Aasmaan Turns 10: Amaal Malik, Armaan Malik and Neeti Mohan reflect on ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ song˝
As Baar Baar Dekho completes 10 years, its song ‘Sau Aasmaan’ continues to be remembered by listeners. Composed by Amaal Malik, sung by Armaan Malik and Neeti Mohan, and penned by Kumaar, the romantic track was among the popular songs from the film’s album.
The song’s upbeat sound, along with Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra’s on-screen chemistry, added to its appeal. A decade after its release, the makers and singers have looked back on their experience of creating the track.
Amaal Malik recalled working on the song and said, “‘Sau Aasmaan’ was great fun to compose for Baar Baar Dekho. Armaan and Neeti brought such amazing energy to this peppy romantic number, and Armaan and I have some wonderful memories from recording it. Azeem Dayani’s vision as the music supervisor and Kumaar’s beautiful lyrics played an important role in bringing the song together, while Nitya Mehra’s incredible vision elevated it visually and gave it a distinct identity. It’s one of the most beautifully shot songs, and I’m so happy it has remained a favourite with audiences for 10 years. Even today, hearing it takes me straight back to those recording days — it still feels like a little musical road trip!”
Neeti Mohan also spoke about her connection with the song, describing it as a track that continues to evoke happy memories. She said, “‘Sau Aasmaan’ has always been very close to my heart. It has that rare quality of making you want to pack your bags, fall in love and just get away somewhere beautiful. Recording it with Amaal, Armaan and Kumaar was such a lovely experience because the song had such a natural, breezy energy to it. Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra’s chemistry showcased a perfect dreamy, carefree romance. Even after ten years, I’m amazed by how beautifully the song has stayed with people. I love it when the song plays for dance performances by kids or at weddings. It’s one of those songs that takes you back to a nostalgic, happy memory.”
Armaan Malik reflected on the challenges of creating the song and how it has remained relevant over the years. He said, “Baar Baar Dekho and ‘Sau Aasmaan’ will always hold a very special place in my heart. I still remember the excitement around the song and how much fun it was recording it with Neeti. Creating a proper danceable Bollywood love song with that breezy, summery, almost EDM-esque sound is actually quite challenging because you want it to feel big and euphoric without losing the romance and soul of the melody. Amaal composed the song beautifully, and I think he really nailed that balance. The combination of his composition with Kumaar’s writing created something that felt fresh for its time, but still had that timeless Bollywood emotion at its core. Azeem Dayani’s music supervision and creative contribution also added so much to the song and helped elevate the overall sound. Ten years later, it’s honestly incredible to see the kind of love ‘Sau Aasmaan’ still gets. There’s something very special about making a song that becomes a part of people’s memories, and I feel very grateful that this song has done that for so many people.”
