Keerthana announces new industrial parks and accommodation for more than 2,500 SIPCOT  workers

The Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department will construct safe residential accommodation for more than 2,500 workers employed in the industrial units at the SIPCOT Industrial Park, Gangaikondan, under Phase II development. “The project, estimated at ₹130 crore, will be executed by Tamil Nadu Industrial Housing Private Limited (TNIHPL), a special purpose vehicle, with public and private participation,” Minister for Industries S. Keerthana said in the Assembly on Tuesday (August 25, 2026).

She also announced a slew of SIPCOT parks across the State. A new SIPCOT industrial park would come up at Mudivaithanendhal in Thoothukudi, on 2,570 acres, at an estimated cost of ₹1,390 crore. This park will house clean and renewable energy-based industries to support sustainable green growth in the southern districts, and is expected to attract ₹5,000 crore in investment.

She said SIPCOT would set up a dedicated e-vehicle manufacturing industrial park at Sillanatham in  Thoothukudi at an estimated cost of ₹774 crore. Spread over 1,294 acres, this park is expected to bring in investment to the tune of ₹7,000 crore.

A SIPCOT industrial park will be opened at Omandur, Villupuram, and Lathuvadi in Namakkal. “SIPCOT will set up a mini-textile park, with ready-built factory sheds, at Avudaiyarkoil in Pudukkottai on 2.47 acres at a cost of ₹25 crore,” the Minister said.

Ms. Keerthana also made an announcement for her constituency, Sivakasi, India’s leading fireworks manufacturing hub with over 1,000 licensed units generating about ₹7,000 crore in annual revenue. The industry would get a dedicated ‘Sivakasi Pyrotechnics Common Facility Centre’, she said.

The Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation’s Bill Finance Scheme, which is now available to vendors and contractors of select government entities such as the Greater Chennai Corporation, TANTRANSCO, TNPDCL, CMWSSB and TWAD, will be extended to all State public sector undertakings, government departments, boards and local bodies. Under this scheme, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) supplying “bills” to these entities will receive financial assistance. About ₹600 crore in financing is expected to benefit around 500 MSMEs this financial year.

In line with the Central government’s National Quantum Mission, a study, estimated at ₹1 crore, will be undertaken to position Tamil Nadu as a ‘Quantum Safe’ State, providing the technological infrastructure needed to secure the digital data of financial institutions, global capability centres, and aerospace, space and defence establishments against emerging quantum computing threats. The study will be carried out by ELCOT and TIDCO.

Ms. Keerthana said Tamil Nadu Salt Corporation would launch double fortified salt under the brand name, ‘Vettri Double Fortified Salt’, to support the State’s nutrition and public health goals. It would be sold through fair price shops and in the open market.
