Unauthorised parking: Notices issued to 382 abandoned or unused vehicles in Mysuru

The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) on Tuesday (August 25) started affixing notices on abandoned or unused vehicles parked on roads, footpaths and other public places for a long period of time.

The MCC had conducted a survey and identified a total of 382 such abandoned vehicles in its limits. 

A drive to remove such vehicles was launched on Tuesday with MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha affixing the notices.

Parking such vehicles on public roads and footpaths obstructs public movement and affects the cleanliness and aesthetics of the city, said a statement by MCC while also pointing out that some of the vehicles could become dumping spots for waste and facilitate illegal activities and the breeding of disease-carrying vectors, including mosquitoes.

“Therefore, owners of the vehicles have been directed to remove them from the respective locations within seven days from the date of affixing the notice. If the vehicles are not removed within the stipulated period, they will be treated as abandoned/unused vehicles and towed away in accordance with Section 127 of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976, the MCC bye-laws and resolutions of the Corporation Council,” said the statement.

The cost of removing and transporting the vehicles will be recovered from the respective owners. If necessary, the vehicles may also be auctioned or scrapped, the MCC said.

The Commissioner has appealed to vehicle owners to voluntarily remove their vehicles within the stipulated period and co-operate with the civic body in keeping public roads and spaces free of obstructions, without necessitating further action by the corporation.

The MCC Executive Engineer (Environment), environmental engineers, health inspectors and supervisors were present during the programme.
