Shaan shares his views on Saiyaara’s soundtrack: “Not a fan of songs that lower your mood”; also confesses, “Never imagined ‘Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh’ would become such a huge hit”
In a conversation with Komal Nahta, singer Shaan candidly opened up about certain songs and film soundtracks and made honest confessions. He admitted that he had never imagined that ‘Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh’ from 3 Idiots (2009) would go on to become such a huge hit.

Shaan was asked, “Do you get an understanding that a song is going to work?” He replied, “Not really. I’ll give you an example. I never imagined ‘Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh’ will work in such a big way. After all, it’s a situational song. Aamir Khan is not even there when the song is played in the film. Bas ek gaadi jaa rahi hai. So, I wondered how the song would hold? Woh meri galat fehmi thi. The song had beautiful lyrics and great composition (smiles). It did so well.”
‘Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh’ plays right at the beginning of 3 Idiots, during the opening credits. Farhan (R Madhavan) receives a call from Chatur (Omi Vaidya), who informs him that Rancho (Aamir Khan), missing for nearly ten years, has apparently been spotted in Shimla. Farhan then picks up his best friend Raju (Sharman Joshi), and the duo joins Chatur as they set off in search of Rancho. It is during this journey from Delhi to Shimla that the much-loved song plays.
At another point in the conversation, Shaan also spoke candidly about the blockbuster soundtrack of Saiyaara (2025), revealing that despite its phenomenal popularity, its musical style does not particularly appeal to him.
He said, “The music of Saiyaara was a big hit. But I am not a big fan of that style of music. It has more of pathos and melancholy. I prefer happy, vibrant songs which uplift your mood. I am personally not a fan of songs that lower your mood. However, the public has appreciated the soundtrack and has even loved that film so much.”
Directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara marked the debut of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The romantic drama emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.
