Work orders have been issued to Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers in a 70:30 ratio for the supply of one-gram gold rings under the State Government’s “Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam” scheme.
With the scheme set to be launched on September 15, the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister C. N. Annadurai, the firms are expected to supply a total of 1,28,499 one-gram gold rings for a four-month period beginning from June, the State’s Health Department said in a press release.
The State Government had announced the implementation of the scheme to present one-gram gold rings to babies born in government hospitals from June 22, 2026, onwards.
A Government order was issued for the procurement of 4,41,667 gold rings weighing one gram each. Following this, the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation floated tenders on July 14.
Around 11 firms participated through the “TN Tenders Portal” and submitted their bidding price. In this, excluding the price of one gram of gold, Joyalukkas quoted the lowest price of ₹0.01 towards all additional charges, including making charges, insurance, transportation and BIS hallmarking.
In accordance with the Tamil Nadu Transparency in Tenders Act and Rules, the price quoted by the lowest bidder was shared with the other 10 participating firms, seeking their willingness to match the price offered by the lowest bidder. Among them, only Kalyan Jewellers agreed to match the quoted price. Work orders have been issued to the successful bidders.
It may be recalled that the State Government had announced the implementation of the scheme at a total cost of ₹755.83 crore.
