Delhi Capitals IPL 2027 overhaul: Ganguly and Yuvraj in key roles?

Delhi Capitals are preparing for a sweeping leadership overhaul ahead of IPL 2027, with Sourav Ganguly reportedly in line to be named head coach and Yuvraj Singh expected to join the franchise as batting coach. JSW Group assumes operational control of the franchise from IPL 2027 under a two-year ownership cycle, and the planned appointments reflect the scale of change the new management intends to bring.

ESPNcricinfo reported in June that both Ganguly and Yuvraj have been lined up for senior leadership roles, with the franchise looking to rebuild its structure from the top down. Formal announcements on the new coaching setup are yet to be confirmed.

The incoming appointments carry significant weight for both individuals. The batting coach role at Delhi Capitals would be Yuvraj Singh’s first in the IPL. He has previously mentored Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, among others, a track record that has earned him credibility in modern T20 batting circles. For Ganguly, the move builds on his appointment as JSW’s director of cricket in 2024 and his experience as head coach of Pretoria Capitals during SA20 2025, which marked his first foray into professional coaching.

Ganguly and Yuvraj were also present at a Delhi Capitals training and talent-identification camp held at Just Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, where former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra was involved in evaluating bowling prospects.

What happens to the current Delhi Capitals coaching staff?

The overhaul is expected to bring a near-complete change to the existing backroom setup. Venugopal Rao, Hemang Badani, Munaf Patel and Ian Bell are all likely to be released as the franchise transitions to its new structure under JSW Group.

Delhi Capitals finished sixth in IPL 2026, and that result has sharpened the urgency behind the franchise’s desire for change. The decision to bring in two high-profile former India players as the central figures in the setup signals a clear shift in direction as the team prepares for the next edition.

Where does Rishabh Pant fit into Delhi Capitals’ IPL 2027 plans?

Alongside the coaching revamp, Delhi Capitals have moved to bring Rishabh Pant back to the franchise ahead of IPL 2027. Pant bid farewell to the Lucknow Super Giants in June 2026, with Kuldeep Yadav moving in the opposite direction as part of the arrangement, and the wicketkeeper-batter rejoined Delhi Capitals at a revised fee of INR 15 crore.

Pant had previously represented Delhi Capitals across nine seasons, making 111 appearances for the side and leading the team as captain for four of those seasons. His return provides an experienced and familiar presence at the heart of a squad being reshaped under new management, even as the formal coaching announcements remain pending.
