DGP launches TG-VEER portal for police martyrs’ families, says peace in region built on sacrifices of police martyrs

Recalling the supreme sacrifice of 28 police martyrs from the erstwhile Warangal district who laid down their lives fighting naxalism, Director General of Police C.V. Anand said the peace prevailing in the region today was built on the sacrifices of personnel who placed duty above their own lives.

Mr. Anand interacted with the families of the police martyrs at an ‘Athmiya Samavesham’ in Warangal on Sunday, the second day  of his district visit.

He launched TG-VEER, a dedicated grievance portal for the families of police martyrs, and issued QR-code-enabled family cards to them.

The portal provides a single platform for families to register grievances relating to financial assistance, compassionate appointments, plot allotment and other benefits to which they are entitled. It also brings together the service profile of each martyr, family details and benefits received, besides providing a centralised repository of relevant Government Orders. Senior officers can monitor and track grievances at both unit and State levels.

The DGP directed the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), which developed the portal, to immediately communicate with all police units, collect the grievances of all martyrs’ families and submit a consolidated report.

During the interaction, family members brought several long-pending issues to the DGP’s notice, including ex gratia, financial assistance, plot allotment and registration and title-related issues, pension and other welfare matters.

Mr. Anand took note of the grievances and assured the families that he would take up the issues with the government and pursue their resolution.

Sharing his personal association with Warangal, where he began his IPS career during the peak of the naxal movement, Mr. Anand said he could empathise with the pain of families who had lost their loved ones in the line of duty.

Recalling the difficult years when police personnel faced ambushes and exchange of fire, he paid tribute to the officers and personnel who made the supreme sacrifice at the altar of duty.

The DGP also inspected the under-construction Commissioner of Police office building and stressed the need to make it citizen-friendly, improve internal efficiency, and provide scope for technology integration and better surveillance. Warangal Police Commissioner N. Swetha briefed him on the progress of the works, which are nearing completion.

Later, the DGP held a crime review meeting with police officials in the city.

According to sources, the DGP stressed the need to give paramount importance to basic policing while effectively using technology to tackle emerging challenges such as cybercrime, the drug menace, financial offences and road accidents.

He noted that Telangana had secured the first overall rank in the country in combating cybercrime at the recent nationwide PRAGATI Review Meeting conducted by the Prime Minister’s Office.
