Pakistani singer Mustafa Zahid set to reunite with Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 for new promotional version of ‘Tera Mera Rishta’: Report
Emraan Hashmi’s much-awaited Awarapan 2 has been generating considerable buzz among Bollywood fans, and the film has now made headlines for another reason. Pakistani singer Mustafa Zahid, who originally lent his voice to the popular track ‘Tera Mera Rishta’ from Awarapan, is reportedly in talks to record a new version of the song for the upcoming sequel.
The development comes amid the long-standing restrictions surrounding Pakistani artists working in India. According to a report by Mid-day, the makers of Awarapan 2 are considering bringing Mustafa Zahid on board for the revamped version of the much-loved song.
A source told Mid-day, “Should the deal materialise, it will mark one of the rare instances in recent years of a Pakistani playback singer recording for a mainstream Hindi film.” However, the new version is reportedly not expected to feature in the film itself. The makers are said to be planning to use the track exclusively across social media platforms as part of the film’s promotional campaign, as including it in the movie could reportedly create difficulties during the certification process.
The source further stated, “The professional reunion is awaiting approval from both parties at this stage.” As per the report, the recording could take place in Dubai if the collaboration gets the final approval.
Neither Mustafa Zahid nor the makers of Awarapan 2 have officially commented on the report so far.
The reported collaboration comes against the backdrop of restrictions on Pakistani artists in India following the 2016 Uri attack. While several film bodies had opposed Pakistani artists working in Indian cinema, the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition in 2023 seeking a complete legal ban on Pakistani artists appearing in Indian films.
The issue has continued to remain controversial. Last year, Sardaar Ji 3 and Aabeer Gulaal, featuring Pakistani actors Hania Aamir and Fawad Khan respectively, did not release in India.
Meanwhile, the makers of Awarapan 2 have already unveiled the new version of ‘Tera Mera Rishta’. The track has been composed by Mithoon, Mustafa Zahid and Pritam, with vocals by Saaj Bhatt and Subodhh Sharma.
