Man killed in elephant attack in Ooty

A 70-year-old man was killed in a wild elephant attack at Kariysholai in the Bitherkad forest range in Gudalur on Saturday morning.

Forest officials identified the deceased as M. Balasubramaniam, who worked at a private coffee estate in the area. At the time of the incident, there was thick fog, which limited visibility and contributed to the negative human-elephant interaction, officials said.

Balasubramaniam suffered serious injuries in the elephant attack and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Interim compensation was immediately handed over to his next of kin.
