Council Chairman, Assembly Speaker say it’s all sorted out

A day after the ire of the Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti over being ignored by Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader became public, the two seemed to have buried their differences.

The thaw in the relationship came after Mr. Khader visited the residence of Mr. Horatti on Wednesday morning. The meeting, held behind closed doors, lasted over 15 minutes.

Mr. Horatti on September 8 had written to Mr. Khader highlighting instances where he had been ignored and unilateral decisions taken.

His immediate grouse was that he had not been consulted before drawing up the tour programme for the Commonwealth conference being held at Barbados after which the delegation from Karnataka will be visiting Norway, Morocco and Spain.

Mr. Khader responded, stating that no unilateral decisions had been taken. The letter became an embarrassment since it became public days before the commencement of the three-day Commonwealth Parliamentary Association India Region Conference in Bengaluru from Thursday.

However, on Wednesday after the meeting, the two leaders informed presspersons that there was miscommunication between their offices.

Mr. Horatti said that the miscommunication had taken place during his travel abroad, following which he had written the letter.

“Mr. Khader has clarified on issues with me now. Even our (Legislative Council) Secretary did not have information. He is young and I have affixed my signature to his work.”

Mr. Khader also said that there was no confusion between them and all misunderstandings had been sorted out.
