Pakistan to host Sri Lanka for three-match ODI series in November

Pakistan are set for a busy home cricket season, with Sri Lanka confirmed to tour the country for a three-match ODI series in November, right after their high-profile all-format series against South Africa in October, also at home.

The ODI series against Sri Lanka adds further significance to Pakistan’s season as it will be followed by a T20I tri-series also featuring Afghanistan. The tri-series will be a historic occasion in itself, marking Pakistan’s maiden home tri-nation event. All matches of both the ODI and T20I legs will be staged at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, a venue that has gained prominence in recent years and also hosted fixtures in this year’s ICC Men’s Champions Trophy.

For Sri Lanka, the ODI assignment will carry added weight as it marks their first bilateral ODI series in Pakistan since 2019, when Pakistan clinched the three-match contest by a margin of 2-0, with one game washed out due to rain. The two teams most recently met in the 50-over format during the 2023 World Cup, where Pakistan secured a comfortable six-wicket victory while chasing a challenging total.

Pakistan will enter the home season with momentum, having recently lifted the tri-series trophy against Afghanistan and the UAE. Their focus now shifts to the Asia Cup, which begins on September 9 in the UAE and will feature eight teams.

The Asia Cup and the subsequent home season will serve as critical preparation for Pakistan ahead of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup , which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka early next year.
