Asha Bhosle on bridging musical boundaries at 92; says, “I served as the common link for these legendary composers…”
Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle celebrated her 92nd birthday on September 8, reflecting warmly on her remarkable musical journey. Thanking her fans for their support, the legendary songstress shared that even after more than eighty years of singing, she believes there is still plenty left for her to discover and learn.
Asha Bhosle shared with ETimes, “At 92, I want to express my gratitude to all my well-wishers who have stood by me throughout this long journey. Without your love and encouragement, I could never have come this far.” She added, “Each round of applause inspires me to keep moving forward and explore new, untested avenues in the vast world of music and art. Despite what people may think, I’m actually quite reserved and prefer not to dwell on my accomplishments, as I feel there’s still so much left to learn in the little time I have.”
The legendary singer also teased an exciting new venture. “Since my name means ‘hope,’ I want to end by saying that my journey isn’t over yet. On September 12, 2025, a song I’ve recorded with a renowned British band will be released,” she revealed, leaving fans eager with anticipation.
Looking back on her celebrated career, Bhosle emphasized her role in uniting different musical genres. She remarked, “I take pride in knowing that whenever new boundaries in music were explored, I served as the common link for these legendary composers and their experiments.”
She also expressed her joy over her granddaughter Zanai’s achievements, noting, “It makes me proud to witness the progress of my granddaughter Zanai, who has blossomed into a composer, writer, singer, classical dancer, and actor.”
Acknowledging AR Rahman’s recent words about her musical lineage, Bhosle said, “As Mr. AR Rahman pointed out, my family the Mangeshkars, Bhosles, and Burmans—has devoted itself entirely to music for four generations. He mentioned that we know nothing beyond music, and I take that as a true compliment.”
With her upcoming international collaboration and her enduring passion for the art, Asha Bhosle continues to prove that age is merely a number, and her musical journey is still very much alive.
