Top Indian business leaders, including Radhika Gupta, Harsh Goenka, and Anand Mahindra, have welcomed the newly introduced GST reforms, describing them as an “extremely progressive step” and a “big Diwali gift for every Indian.”

Edelweiss Asset Management MD and CEO Radhika Gupta hailed the newly introduced GST reforms as an “extremely progressive step,” saying the move comes at a critical time and will help boost both demand and sentiment.

“Extremely progressive step at a very critical time that should help boost both demand and sentiment. When the world pushes us into a corner, we push ourselves to fight back harder,” Gupta said in a post on X. 

 

More Reforms Please

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra also welcomed the reforms, stating that faster and more reforms are the most effective way to unleash consumption and investment. He urged the government to continue the momentum, adding, “More reforms, please.”

“We have now joined the battle…More and faster reforms are the surest way to unleash consumption and investment. Those, in turn, will expand the economy and amplify India’s voice in the world. But let’s remember the famous exhortation of Swami Vivekananda:’Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.’ So, more reforms, please,” Mahindra said. 

 

Big Diwali Gift For Every Indian

Industrialist Harsh Goenka echoed similar sentiments, describing the GST reform as a “big Diwali gift for every Indian.”

“Big Diwali gift for every Indian. GST on daily essentials, healthcare, education & farming inputs slashed. Cheaper groceries, Relief in healthcare, Affordable education, Support for farmers. Next-gen GST = ease of living + boost to economy,” Goenka said. 

 

56th GST Council Meeting

During the 56th GST Council meeting on September 3, the government announced major cuts in Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates across essential goods, automobiles, farm inputs, and electronic appliances. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the move is aimed at easing the burden on households, farmers, businesses, and the healthcare sector.
