Jugnuma Trailer: Anurag Kashyap, Vetri Maaran, Lijo Jose Pellissery and more come together to launch the Manoj Bajpayee starrer
In a landmark moment for Indian cinema, six of the country’s most celebrated filmmakers came together to unveil the trailer of Jugnuma (The Fable), an upcoming Manoj Bajpayee starrer rooted in magical realism. The trailer was launched on Saturday by acclaimed storytellers Vetri Maaran, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Raj B. Shetty, and Nag Ashwin, while Academy Award winner Guneet Monga Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap presented the film to audiences.
Directed by Raam Reddy — who made waves globally with his National Award-winning debut Thithi — Jugnuma is described as a visually stunning big-screen experience that blends drama with elements of magical realism. The film also stars Deepak Dobriyal, Priyanka Bose, and Tillotama Shome, with dialogues written by Varun Grover.
Sharing the trailer on Instagram, Anurag Kashyap expressed why this collaboration was significant: “Jugnuma is a film for ages and that’s the reason all of us are supporting the film, so more and more audience watches it. When I reached out to Vetri, Lijo, Raj and Nag, they were more than happy to support it and present the trailer with us.”

For Raam Reddy, the support of such towering figures in Indian cinema was nothing short of surreal. “To have some of the most visionary storytellers of our generation come together in support of Jugnuma is both humbling and deeply affirming. This film was born out of an intimate journey into magical realism — created from the heart and in a vacuum — and to see it embraced by such giants makes me believe that cinema really is a dream worth fighting for,” he shared.
Set in the late 1980s, Jugnuma follows Dev (Manoj Bajpayee), a man who encounters mysteriously burnt trees across his fruit orchards in the Himalayas. As the fires continue, Dev is forced to confront unsettling truths about himself and his family.
The film has already enjoyed a stellar international festival run, premiering at the Berlin International Film Festival and bagging prestigious awards, including Best Film at the Leeds International Film Festival and the Special Jury Prize at MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
With the trailer now out and the film scheduled for an India-wide theatrical release on September 12 by Flip Films, Jugnuma is being hailed as one of the most ambitious and unique cinematic experiences of the year.
